Dr. E. Alma Flagg School is a school with no windows. People sometimes think we are unsuccessful because of this. Sometimes they do not take the time to come inside and our success. We set out to study to see if no windows was affecting our learning and if it was what could we do about it.
Phase 1-The research. What impact does it have when classrooms are too hot? Is the air really bad?
This is what we found out. Take a look at our scripts, listen to our songs and enjoy our powerpoint books.
Phase 2-What did we learn?
These are some of our thoughts.
Halfway through our project PEOSHA and NPS evaluated the air quality in our building. No significant pollutants or problems were found. That was good news. Also a new part was placed on our air conditioning and heating system that helps keep the building temperatures much more comfortable. Thank you to the Offices of Facilities and Maintenance, Dr. Janey and NPS Advisory Board.
Phase 3-What can we do to balance the fact that we have no windows and no beautiful grounds like some of the newly constructed schools? We have some ideas. If we had a million dollars here are our proposals. They include a playground in the lot next door, sky lights in the roof and a nice student lounge that is an all season room. We continue to research the funding sources for these proposals. We plan to contact the NPS Office of Innovation. Take a look at some of our ideas.

Phase 4-Partnerships
The Randy Foye Foundation partnered with employees of Goldman Sachs to help beautify the outside of our school. It is amazing how much better it made us all feel. Hopefully the neighbors let the plants stay in front of our school.

Randy Foye is our mentor. He was a student at Dr. E. Alma Flagg. He never forgets where he came from. He has used the opportunities in life to make a way when there could have been no way. For example, when his parents both died when he was very young he did not sit around feeling sorry for himself. He went to school and got an education at our school with no windows. He is very proud of our school and so are we. He makes sure we have the chance to do whatever we want in life. He puts his money where his mouth is though his Foundation. He makes sure every student at Flagg has an equal opportunity to succeed by inspiring us all through windows of opportunity that we may not can always see.

Expect to hear more great things from our
